1877[see dip n. 5 b]. 1881Raymond Mining Gloss., Jinny-road, a gravity plane underground. 1888Sheffield Gloss., Ginny, an engine by means of which a load is let down an inclined plane. A term used in coal-mining. 1891Labour Commission Gloss., Jinny, a self-acting incline where the full tubs of coal pull the empty ones up. 2. A name given in Long Island, U.S., to a bird, Strepsilas interpres, the Turnstone.
