A bacteriostatic antibiotic, C₂₅H₄₃N₁₃O₁₀, produced by several species of bacterium which has been given as an alternative drug in the treatment of tuberculosis, usu. by intramuscular injection of the sulphate.

I. v. 254/2 Kanamycin, capreomycin, and viomycin are aminoglycosides which can be used as alternatives to the more potent streptomycin in patients hypersensitive to the streptomycin or who are infected with strains resistant to first-line drugs.
