[Gr. µανία madness], (a) ‘morbid dread of some word, intense mental anguish at the inability to recall some word or to name a thing’ (Syd. Soc. Lex. 1892); (b) a morbid preoccupation with words; a mania for word-making. oˈnomatoˌplasm [Gr. πλάσµα form], a word formed by onomatopœia.
