[ad. mod.L. Phytosauria, f. generic name Phytosaurus (G. F. Jaeger 1828, in Ueber die Fossile Reptilien Württemberg 22): see phyto- (the animals were at first understood to be plant-eating) and *-saur.]
Any member of the suborder Phytosauria of Late Triassic crocodile-like reptiles.
Formerly used only of the genus Phytosaurus.
