1. Roman Law. (trans.) To hand over by the formality of mancipation.
1656Blount Glossogr., Mancipate, to deliver possession, to give the right to another, to sell for money. 1870Abdy & Walker tr. Gaius i. cxx. 40 In this manner persons, both slaves and free, are mancipated. Ibid. cxxi, But estates can be mancipated when at a distance. 1880Muirhead Gaius i. §132 The father again mancipates him either to the same person..or to a different one—it is the usual practice to mancipate to the same.
