eclampsia, eclampsy Pathol.|ɛˈklæmpsɪə, -sɪ| [a. and ad. mod.L. eclampsia, as if a. Gr. *ἐκλαµψία, regularly f. ἐκλάµπειν to shine forth. Cf. Fr. éclampsie.] ‘Epileptiform convulsions dependent on some actual disturbance of the nervous centres caused by anatomical lesion’ (Syd. Soc. Lex.). So also eˈclamptic a., affected with, or characteristic of eclampsia; (the less correct form eclampsic has been also used).
