[f. Gr. ψάρ starling (or ψᾱρός speckled) + λίθος stone (see -lite); app. rendering G. starstein, f. star starling + stein stone.]
Name for the silicified stems of tree-ferns found in the Permian or Lower New Red Sandstone, from the speckled markings which they exhibit in section. Also ˈpsaronite [f. mod.L. Psaronius, the generic name (L. psārōnius, name of some precious stone, Pliny) + -ite].
