Any of the rubbery, insoluble resins produced in phenol-aldehyde copolymerizations at a stage intermediate between resol and resite.
1913H. Lebach in Jrnl. Soc. Chem. Industry XXXII. 559/2 Besides these products, Baekeland distinguishes an intermediate polymerisation product, which he terms ‘Bakelite ‘B’’... This intermediate condensation product I would suggest to call ‘Resitol’. 1950Thorpe's Dict. Appl. Chem. (ed. 4) X. 24/2 When heated at temperatures above 100° c. it melts and froths, becoming more viscous and eventually reaching the rubbery stage, the ‘B’ or resitol stage. 1973Materials & Technol. VI. viii. 588 Phenol resins evolve in three stages, which are connected with the degree of condensation: 1. Resol or A-stage (beginning of condensation): the resin is fluid, soluble, and still contains much water. 2. Resitol or B-stage (continued condensation, slight cross-linking): insoluble, rubbery. 3. Resite or C-stage (final condition of the cured product): infusible and insoluble. |
