Any bacterium of the genus Lactobacillus (family Lactobacillaceæ), which includes microaerophilic or anaerobic, non-motile, Gram-positive rods which convert glucose and related carbohydrates to lactic acid and are found in the intestinal tract and in fermenting plant and animal (esp. dairy) products.
