lampadary|ˈlæmpədərɪ| [ad. L. lampadārius, Byzantine Gr. λαµπαδάριος, f. λαµπάς (see lamp n.1); in sense 2 as if ad. L. *lampadārium. Cf. F. lampadaire.] 1. Hist. An officer in the church of Constantinople, whose duty it was to provide for the lighting of the church, and to bear a taper before the emperor and the patriarch in processions.
