1895Syd. Soc. Lex., Pneumectomy (for pneumonectomy, from Gr. πνεύµων, a lung..), term for excision of part of the lung, an operation which has occasionally been tried in some forms of Phthisis.1911Practitioner Nov. 682 Incision and drainage of a pulmonary cavity was the first operation practised for pulmonary tuberculosis, and..it has been performed much more frequently than pneumectomy.1932[see lobectomy].
