polyporic acid: a bronze-coloured crystalline solid, 3, 6-dihydroxy-2, 5-diphenyl-p-benzoquinone, C₁₈H₁₂O₄, which is a colouring matter found in certain fungi and lichens, and was first isolated from a fungus of the genus Polyporus.

When brought into contact with dilute ammonia, its colour changes to a fine deep violet, and it yields a solution from which hydrochloric acid throws down a yellow precipitate of the new acid—polyporic acid.1931Jrnl.
