[f. mammotrophic a.]
A cell of the mammalian adenohypophysis which secretes prolactin.
1966H. D. Purves in Harris & Donovan Pituitary Gland I. iv. 186 It would therefore be appropriate to call prolactin secreting cells in mammals ‘mammotrophs’. The name ‘lactotroph’ is suggested as one suitable for use in any vertebrate.1972Amer. Jrnl. Anat.
