Any pair of homologous chromosomes. Hence diˈsomic a., relating to or characterized by a disome; usu. (of a haplont), having one extra chromosome which is homologous with a chromosome of the normal haploid set; also as n., a disomic organism, etc.
1921A. F. Blakeslee in Amer. Naturalist LV. 259 The homologous chromosomes therefore form tetrasomes, to use a new term, instead of disomes as in normals or trisomes as in triploid plants.
