repr. G. -ismus or L. -ismus (see -ism), used similarly to -ism, indicating a typical condition or typical conduct, in nouns formed from proper names, or indicating a system or principle, as in historismus, mysticismus, Sherlockismus, snobismus. Freq. with ironical or pejorative overtones.
