Mosarabes pl., and with etymologizing perversion Mixtarabes), corrupt form of Arab. mustaﻋrib, ‘would-be Arab’, active pple. of a verb of the 10th (desiderative) conjugation f. ﻋarab Arab.] In Spain under Moorish rule: One of those Christians who, on condition of owning allegiance to the Moorish king, and conforming to certain Moorish customs, were allowed the exercise of their own religion.
