a. pl. In the French Third Republic, (a political grouping of) monarchists and imperialists who, deferring to a Papal encyclical of 1892, ‘rallied’ in support of the Republic.
b. In extended use, a group (or a member of a group) of adherents or ralliers to a cause, esp. one on the political right. Also attrib. or as adj.
