Little Neck U.S.
The name of a locality in Long Island, used attrib. in little neck clam to designate small specimens of the quahog, Mercenaria mercenaria, or other similar clams. Also absol.
1884Bull. U.S. Nat. Mus. No. 27. 234 Another name [for the small round clam] is ‘Little Neck’, derived originally from a neck of land on the north shore of Long Island, known as Little Neck, whose clams had a superior flavour. 1899J.
