An admirer or imitator of Poussin, spec. one of a group of late 17th c. French artists and critics who (in opposition to the Rubénistes) considered mastery of design, as epitomized in the work of Poussin, more important than the exuberant and expressive use of colour, as exemplified by that of Rubens.
