The name of Heinrich Geissler (1814–79), German mechanic and glass-blower, used attrib. († or in the possessive) to designate certain apparatus invented by him, as Geissler tube, a sealed glass tube containing gas at low pressure and a pair of electrodes so designed that a luminous discharge can be produced between them.
