A silicate of magnesium, ferrous iron, and calcium, (Mg,FeII,Ca)(Mg,FeII)Si2O6, that is a monoclinic calcium-poor pyroxene substantially free of aluminium and ferric iron, and that is found chiefly in basic igneous, esp. volcanic, rocks.
