“peripediment”的英英意思

单词 peripediment
释义 peripediment Geomorphol.|ˈpɛrɪpɛdɪmənt, pɛrɪˈpɛdɪmənt|
[f. peri- + pediment1.]
A broad, gently sloping surface that is the top of a thickness of detrital alluvium and either extends outwards from a mountain-foot in an arid or semi-arid region or else smoothly continues the line of an intervening pediment.
1942A. D. Howard in Jrnl. Geomorphol. V. 11 The term peripediment is suggested for a pediplane which levels an earlier basin fill. If both elements of the pediplane are present, the peripediment is always beyond and peripheral to the pediment.1970R. J. Small Study of Landforms ix. 308 The smaller and steeper bajadas tend to mask only the upper part of the rock pediment, burying the piedmont angle, but the larger and more gently sloping fans may be so extensive as to grade into the alluvial deposits of the peripediment.1975Nature 7 Aug. 468/1 This gravel..seems to have been deposited as a series of large confluent fans derived from the escarpment, which form an extensive..peripediment.
