Also Golla, Goolah.
[Conjectured to be either a shortening of Angola, or from a Liberian group of peoples known as Golas.]
Used attrib. or absol. to designate Black people living on the sea-islands and tide-water coastline of South Carolina and Georgia, and the dialect spoken by them.
