The name of a tributary of the River Thames, used attrib., esp. in Loddon lily, to designate the summer snowflake, Leucojum æstivum, a small, white-flowered, bulbous plant once common on the banks of this river.
1882Dickens's Dict. Thames 28/3 It [sc. the summer snowflake] is very abundant in the meadows by the Loddon, and hence called ‘Loddon lilies’.1938R.
