A. adv. (interj.) Quickly, immediately, at once; used by conjurers and jugglers in various phrases of command, esp. Presto, be gone, Hey presto, pass, etc.; hence, = immediately, forthwith, instanter. Also interjectionally: see quots. 1821, 1892.
