A yellow-flowered native herb, Microseris lanceolata (also called M. scapigera), of the family Compositæ, resembling a dandelion but having clusters of small tuberous roots, formerly used as food by the Aborigines.

Buckley 85 There was another sort of food very useful to me; this was a particular kind of root the natives call Murning—in shape, and size, and flavour, very much resembling the radish.1878R. Brough Smyth Aborigines Victoria I. 209 Murr-nong or Mirr-n'yong, a kind of yam (Microseris Forsteri), was usually very plentiful and found in the spring and early summer, and was dug out of the earth by the women and children...
