uronic acid: any derivative of a monosaccharide in which the {b1}CH2OH group has been oxidized to a {b1}COOH group.
1925D. R. Nanji et al. in Jrnl. Soc. Chem. Industry 253 t/2 Lactose oxidised by bromine in presence of calcium carbonate yields a dicarboxylic acid from which galacturonic acid can be obtained on hydrolysis, whilst sucrose under similar treatment yields glycuronic acid.
