1) 表示“行进着”或“进行着”，是第二类动词（主语可以是人，或是进行中的事）。

• I was proceeding along Oxford Street when...当我正沿着牛津街走着时…
• How is the work proceeding?工作进行得如何？
• The talks proceeded in a friendly atmosphere.谈判是在友好气氛中进行的。

2) 后面加 with...，表示“（在真正或似乎停顿了一段时间之后）重新继续作某事”，是第四类动词（主语通常是人）。

• Please proceed with your explanation.请你继续解释下去。
• Do you intend to proceed with the case?这个案子你打算继续办下去吗？

3) 表示“采取某种行事方式”，是第二类动词（主语必须是人）。

• How does one proceed in such circumstances?遇到这样的情况，该怎么办？

4) 后面加 from...，表示“源出于”，是第一类动词，可以用一般现在时（主语不能是人）。

• Superstition proceeds from ignorance.迷信源出于无知。

5) 同样后面也是加 from...，表示“从…出发”，是第四类动词（主语可以是人或事物）。

• From where did the shot proceed?这一枪是从哪里打来的？

6) 后面加 to inf. 或 to + 名词，表示“着手开始做某事”或“转而开始做某事”，是第四类动词（主语通常是人）。

• She proceeded to tell us why.她于是就告诉我们是什么原因。
• Let's proceed to the next item on the agenda.咱们转入议程下一项吧。

7) 名词复数形 proceeds，表示某次售卖取得的收入（income 则是某人在某一期间各种来源的收入）。

• the proceeds from a bazaar一次义卖的收入
• He sold the house and went to Jamaica on the proceeds.他把房子卖了，靠这笔钱去了牙买加。
• She hopes to announce a fundraising weekend concert soon, with proceeds going to quake victims. (David Pierson, The Los Angeles Times, May 12, 2008)她希望宣布不久即将举办一次周末筹款音乐会，门票收入送给地震灾民。

由于复数形的 proceeds 所表示的是一个整体的金钱数量，不是一个个单独的 proceed 凑在一起，因此它也同 profits 一样，成了一个不可数名词，前面也可以用 much。

• After the lottery has been drawn the promoter must report to the Local Authority how much proceeds the lottery generated.彩票抽奖之后，主持人应向当地主管报告彩票出售产生了多少收入。

但是也有说 many proceeds 的。

• Many proceeds will go to the Red Cross tsunami relief efforts.许多筹款收入将用于红十字会的海啸赈灾。
