但美国英语的 appeal 可以是个及物动词，以原审判决（或案件）为其直接宾语，甚至可以有被动语态。

• We intend to appeal the verdict.我们打算对判决不服上诉。
• The plaintiff appealed his case to the Vermont Supreme Court.原告人把案件上诉到维蒙特州最高法院。
• The case is being appealed.案子正在上诉中。

2) 另外，appeal to 还有不属于法律范围的“诉诸”的意思。

• You must appeal to public opinion to win the election.竞选要获胜，就要诉诸舆论。

3) appeal 作为“不服上诉”的名词时，“提出上诉”的“提出”可以是 lodge, enter 或 file，原审判决可以用 against 或 of 引入，也就是：to lodge/enter/file an appeal against/of a sentence/decision/verdict。
