Lex., Pūpillātus, applied to the wings of birds and of butterflies when they present circular spots of divers colours, representing..an eye, and in the centre of which exists a black spot resembling a pupil: pupillate. ▪ II. † ˈpupillate, v. Obs. rare—0. [f. L. pūpillāre + -ate3.] intr. (See quot.) So † pupiˈllonian [L. pūpillōn-em], one who cries like a peacock.
