repr. L. sex six in combination (as in sexangulus sexangular, sexennis sexennial), occurs in many mod. formations, chiefly scientific or technical. (In some of these sexi- is also used.)
1. Forming parasynthetic compounds, as sexannulate (= six-ringed), sexarticulate, sexcuspidate, sexlocular, sexradiate, sextubercular, sex-tuberculate adjs. (see annulate, etc.); sexˈdigital, -ˈdigitate, -ˈdigitated (also sedigital, etc. after L.) adjs., having six digits (fingers or toes); sexˈdigitism, the condition of having six digits; sexˈdigitist, one who has six digits; sexˈfarious a. Bot. [mod.L. sexfarius], see quot.; ˈsexfid a. [mod.L. sexfidus], divided into six segments; sexˈtactic a. Math., pertaining to or involving six coincident points of contact.

Also in other kinds of words: † sexˈbasic a., having six combining proportions of the base; sexˈvalent a., having an equivalence of six, combining with or replacing six hydrogen atoms.
