单词 acid jazz
释义 acid jazz, n.
Brit. |asɪd ˈdʒaz|, U.S. |ˌæsəd ˈdʒæz|
[‹ acid n. + jazz n., after acid house n.]
A genre of dance music, first popular within the U.K. club subculture of the late 1980s, incorporating elements of jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop.
The term, coined as a humorous play on the name of the then-flourishing Acid House movement, was popularized by the Acid Jazz record label, founded in 1987. The label's earliest releases compiled both original recordings and re-releases of jazz, funk, and soul material from the 1960s–70s, while the series on the BGP label entitled Acid Jazz (see quot. 1988) comprised only re-released material.
