One of the names of God in the Bible and cabbala, inscribed on certain ritual objects and on talismans.
1620J. Donne Sermon (1957) III. 191 Shaddai is the name of God, and yet Shaddai is spoyle, violence and depredation. 1881Encycl. Brit. XIII. 812/1 The angel Metatron inhabits this world.
