An anticlinal fold in which overlying rocks are pierced by a mobile rock core. Also attrib. Hence diaˈpiric a.; ˈdiapirism.

XIII. 467 A peculiar characteristic..is the tendency of the Miocene beds, and especially the salt formation, to pierce through the overlying rocks at certain points on anticlinal axes, thus giving rise to a structure so common that Mrazec [in 1906 Bull.
