1. Folded, doubled, gathered in folds; furnished with pleats. In this sense now generally written pleated.

Italy claims the first invention of these, and, much being made at Genoa, it was known as Genoese Lace, but as large quantities were also worked in Spain,..plaited laces also received the name of Point d'Espagne.
