Any of various tropical American hardwood trees belonging to Ocotea, Nectandra, and related genera of the laurel family, esp. (in full red louro) the tree O. rubra; the dense wood of any of these trees. Also, any of several similar Brazilian trees of the genus Cordia of the borage family, or their wood .
