[a. Fr. affiche-r, OFr. aficher, afichier, cogn. w. Pr. aficar, afiquar, Sp. afijar, It. afficcare, for the origin of which Diez assumes a late L. *affīgicāre, f. ad to + *fīgicāre, deriv. form of fīgĕre to fix; cf. fodĕre, fodicāre, pendĕre, pendicāre, whence Fr. pencher.]
