1. Also (U.S.) pipet. A pipe or tube of small calibre, and of various forms, used (esp. in chemistry or in scientific experiments) to transfer or measure small quantities of a liquid or gas.
1839Ure Dict. Arts 68 We readily obtain a volume of 100 cubic centimetres by means of a pipette. 1860F. W. Griffin in Jrnl. Soc. Arts VIII. 324/1 By means of a graduated pipette I took a thousandth part containing..one thousandth of a grain of arsenious acid. 1884Times 27 Oct. 4/2 A ‘pipette’ is..a glass tube with a..swelling about one-third up from its lower end.
