Lassa|ˈlæsə| The name of a village near Mubi in N.E. Nigeria, used attrib. in Lassa fever, an acute febrile virus disease that occurs in tropical Africa with a high mortality rate (first reported at Lassa in 1969); similarly Lassa virus.
