[f. hypo- 2 + Gr. γεν- to produce, γίγνεσθαι to be born, to originate; prob. after F. endogène, exogène (see -gen). Cf. F. hypogène.]
Formed under the surface; applied to rocks otherwise called primary and metamorphic; also, subterranean, hypogean.
