[mod.L. (D. Don Prodromus Floræ Nepalensis (1825) 36), f. Gr. Πλειόνη, the name of the mother of the Pleiades.]
An orchid of the genus so called, belonging to the family Orchidaceæ, native to mountainous regions of northern India, Burma, and China, and bearing white, pink, or purple flowers, with plicate leaves which, in most species, fall before flowering begins.
