[f. ego + ideal n.; tr. G. Ichideal.]
a. That part of the mind which, in Freudian theory, is evolved from the ego as it becomes aware of parental and social standards, and imposes upon it concepts of ideal behaviour with which it should conform.
b. = superego.
c. In vague or popular use: a conception of oneself as one would like to be.
