1. a. An act of cutting up.

b. orig. U.S. (a) The act of making practical or verbal jokes; clowning. rare. (b) A person who ‘cuts up’ or capers (see cut v. 60 m and o). Also attrib.

2. A kind of hosiery (see quot. 1892).
