dream-hole
[? f. dream n.1 + hole.]
One of ‘the holes left in the walls of steeples, towers, barns, etc., for the admission of light’ (Grose). Supposed (by modern archæologists) to have been originally applied to the holes in church-towers and belfries by which the sound passed out.
