1704Dict. Rust. (1726) s.v. Japan, That it [sc. varnish] may not dry before the Venturine or Gold-Wire reduced to powder is sifted on it. Ibid., Venturine or Aventurine, is the most delicate and slender sort of Gold-wire, us'd by Embroiderers, &c. 1799G. Smith Laboratory II. 441 As for the black and venturine, you must first lay a coat of varnish on the wood [etc.].
