[ad. mod.L. Anapsida (S. W. Williston 1917, in Jrnl. Geol. XXV. 419), f. an- + Gr. ἁψίς, ἁψιδ- arch: see -id3.]
A. adj. Of or pertaining to the reptilian subclass Anapsida, which comprises turtles, tortoises, and extinct groups all characterized by a skull with no temporal openings; having or being such a skull.
B. n. A reptile of the subclass Anapsida. Cf. diapsid a., synapsid a. and n.
