[L. cunīculus rabbit, burrow, underground passage.]
1. A burrow, underground passage, or mine; in Roman Archæol. applied to the ancient ‘cunicular’ drains of Latium and Southern Etruria.
1670E. Brown in Phil. Trans. V. 1196 The water..falls no lower..passeth away through a Cuniculus made on purpose, through which both this and the other water..do run out together at the foot of an Hill. 1693Ray Three Disc. ii. (1713) 267 (Stanf.) Forced to seek Passage where it finds least Resistance through the lateral Cuniculi.
