[L. fem. (sc. planta) of pinguicul-us fattish, dim. f. pingui-s fat. Introduced as a botanical name by Gesner, 1541, to represent Ger. fettkraut or butterwurz butterwort.]
1. Bot. A genus of small stemless insectivorous bog plants (family Lentibulariaceæ) characterized by thick yellowish-green greasy leaves and slender single-flowered scapes; butterwort.
