A herbaceous perennial of the genus so called, belonging to the family Liliaceæ, native to tropical Africa or south-eastern Asia, and bearing racemes of white or greenish flowers and rosettes of stiff, erect, variegated leaves yielding a strong white fibre; also called bowstring hemp. Also attrib.
